ARTICLE: Grading

Grading allows for questions to be created and customized for staff to monitor and keep track of specific tasks/requirements relating to their students.  Examples of ways in which to incorporate Grading could be a check list for move in day to the dorms, weekly room inspections, nightly study hall or move out day from the dorms.  Grading lists can be used with specific Rollcall Categories or can be independent of Rollcall.

Access to Grading is dependent on user permissions found in System Configurations > Infinity in the Base Security's Grading module section or within an individual's permission settings in People Management > View Contacts in their Permissions tab.  Please contact your school's Reach Administrator with any permission accessibility questions.

Create Questions

Reach Lists > Question Management
Build your questions within Question Management by selecting "New Question"

Question Details allows for the customization of each question and how it will apply to the Grading list.

1. Question text: What is the question/task that's being asked?
2. Is this question mandatory?  Must the staff submit a response to this question for each student in the Grading list?
3.  What type of question is this?  There are a variety of formats that the question can be responded in:

4. Add any additional information as context for the question that is being asked.
5. Variable Name (if applicable) that will be available with the question in your output.
6. Available Answers for this Question - use to create answer selections for Single Select and Multiple Select type questions.  In addition to entering the Answer text, you will set the ordinal for the answer, whether it can be used as a Default Answer (During grading, if you can have an answer set as "default" so that it is the pre-set selected answer. This reduces the amount of work your users have to do in order to select the correct values), and if the Representative Value (this allows you to set a qualitative value to this answer, thus allowing Reach to aggregate/calculate score ranks based on the answer selected. This MUST be a numerical value.).

Building Grading Scoring Templates from the Questions

Once you have built out your questions, you can create your Grading scoring template by navigating to System Configurations > Grading.

1. Add New Grading Type
2. Grading Type Label - This will be the name of the Grading Type that staff will select from the drop down to start a Grading list.
3. Is this Grading Type to also associate with a specified Rollcall Category.  Rollcall results will be logged in the students' Rollcall History.
4. Include a Session Score - This will indicate if the aggregate total will be displayed in the Grading Modal while grading.

5. Add Question - select from Question bank to associate questions with the Grading Type.  You can preview the question and its format by selecting the blue preview button.  Indicate the Ordinal for the order this question should be displayed in the Grading list.  Is the Question Mandatory?  And indicate the Short Code that should be displayed in Grading List for the Question.  Be sure to save all changes with each step.

To record a Grading for a student, select the Action button associated with their name and complete the Grading responses and select "OK."
