ARTICLE: How to manage Parental Permissions - Medications Module

Parental Permissions control how a parent can view and edit medical details from their Reach login, so they can allow or deny specific medications for individual students.

Settings

GO TO: System Configuration >> Infinity

The Infinity settings control the access each Role has within your schools Reach Portal from a base level.

With the Infinity screen open, click on Roles from the left side tabs.

Here you can see the Parent line item, the Parent role belongs to the Base Security permission of External User.
Now we can return to the Base Security tab, click on the left side item to return.

Click on the Edit button for the External User line item.

Here we can see two tabs on the left side, click on Permissions.

These are the permission groups, click on the Security line, the menu will slide down.

In the Security header we can see a bracket number [5/11], this is the quick view to see how many items are active within this permission group, looking at the check boxes, we can count the same number.

To enable access for parents, the following two line items must be activated
  1. See the Parent Permission tab in My Account - PARENT_PERM_VIEW
  2. Edit settings on the Parent Permissions tab in My Account - PARENT_PERM_EDIT

Ensure the ticks are highlighted here, click the header to close the group, then click the save button in the bottom left corner.

Testing

Ensure you test the settings are active and operating as required. To do this, within your schools Reach portal, you can create a Parent Role profile for testing, be sure to associate a test student also.
Once you have this setup, logout and login as that Test Parent. Then click on the Account section of the header bar, and click on My account.

The first of the Permissions from the Infinity settings - See the Parent Permissions tab in My Account

Confirmed, yes we have access as a Parent - click on this tab to open

Click on the white arrow found on the right hand side of the Medical header bar.
The student profile appears and the medication items list alphabetically down the page, use the page arrows at the bottom of the list to move to the next page of medications.
Use the search bar feature to look for a specific medication faster.
If a parent is associated with multiple students, they will be listed separately, just scroll down and identify the student via their profile photo and details.

The second Permission item - Edit settings on the Parent Permissions tab in My Account
Confirmed, yes we have access as a Parent to edit the allowed medications for this student.
Simply click on the arrow or cross beside every medication to adjust its allowance as required, the red and green will change instantly with the click.
The Parent can click each item and update to allow or deny each specific medication, by default, all items will have a red cross.

Once all medication items are updated as required, click on the save button.

Be sure to log out of the Test Parent account and login again as yourself.

Additional Test

You can always double check the student profile

Eg, A parent has updated their student medications, we can then look in the student profile and confirm they are ‘Allowed to be given’.

GO TO: People Management >> Student Profile >> Medical >> Medications

Once you have the profile open, click on the Medical tab, and then the Medications tab, here we can see the list of activated Over-the-Counter Medications.
