How to permit staff to administer medications

Administering medications is a critically important activity which exposes your school to risk. For this reason there is a requirement for two setting to be managed by approved staff before staff members can be permitted to medicate students.

  1. Permission to Administer
The Administer Medication permission determines whether a user is permitted to administer medications.

  2. Approved Dispensing Categories
When a staff member has been permitted to administer medications to students you then need to determine which medication categories each staff member is permitted to administer.

1.  Permission to administer setting

Go To: People Management >> View Contacts >> Staff Profile >> Permissions Tab
Select the Administer Medication  permission.
Note that staff with this permission are often also given the permission to Pause or expire medications and to Set the Administered Time for medications when administering medications.

2.  Set permitted medication categories

Setting the medication categories that a staff member can administer is done in the Medical tab of each staff member's personal profile. If a staff member is permitted to administer medications then the Dispensary sub tab will contain the list of Medication Categories that are available for administering.

Setting permissions to administer a category of medication will enable dispensing of all medications in that category by the staff member.
Go To: People Management >> View Contacts >> Staff Profile >> Medical Tab >> Dispensary Tab
  1. Once in the Personal Profile of the required Staff Member
  2. Click on the Medical tab, then click on the Dispensary tab
  3. Listed are the PMO and OTC Medication Categories that have been created and managed by your school
