If you have HOST in the approval workflow, then Reach will be expecting a host to be selected. This can be
- Parent
- an associated non-parent person (Host)
- Ad-Hoc host (if the option is tuned on in Config > Leave General)

If you have HOST in the approval workflow, then you do not want to have "No Host Necessary" as an option in that Leave Type. Selecting "No Host Necessary" for a leave type with Host actor will result in a missing actor error and won't let the leave request be submitted.
What is an Ad-Hoc Host?
An Ad-hoc host is a host that is not currently associate to a student and does not need to be associated to the student for future leave requests.
An example might be a visiting relative that might want to take a student out for a day or overnight leave but may never be used again for that student's leave.
In these instances you can use the Ad-hoc Host selection in the host selector if this is turned on in your Leave General settings.
Adding Ad-hoc Host details to the leave request
When Ad-Hoc host is selected as an option it is recommended that the host details are added t the NOTES section of the leave request using the Contact template.
Activating Ad-Hoc Host and/or No Host Necessary
Go to System Configuration > Leave General
It's important to note that if you have Host as an actor in a Leave Types' actor workflow, you do not want to have "No Host Necessary" as an option in that Leave Type. Selecting "No Host Necessary" for a leave type with Host actor will result in a missing actor error and won't let the leave request be submitted. You can control the visibility of "No Host Necessary" either at the Global level in System Configurations > Leave General or by the Leave Type at System Configurations > Leave Type and in the General Tab, select the visibility status of "No Host Necessary" for each Leave Type.
